Pictures of Graham's trip to Germany - Freilassing

My Journal of my trip to Freilassing, Germany

When we arrived in Freilassing, it was raining, so we decided to take a taxi to our hotel. The hotel is called Hotel Ruptertus. It is located in Freilassing - at Kirchplatz - Martin Oberndorfer-Str. 6, D - 83395. The web address is http://home.tonline.de/home/Hotel_Rupertus/start.htm. Because it was raining, we figured a boat ride and tour at Chiemsee would not of been enjoyable, so we skipped it and went straight to the hotel. My father and I set out to find out tourist information and train ticket information for our next adventures. Then we walked around town a little to scope out a place for dinner. My mother had rested enough and was ready to join us for dinner and then a tour of the town. By this point in time the rain just got to my mother and sharing an umbrella with my dad was just not cutting it. When we found a place that sold umbrellas she bought one. Of course it was after the fact, but the store she entered happened to be a designer store, so the prices were a bit more expensive. We continued walking around and had a hot chocolate and a banana split for dinner. We could not do any more shopping, because places were closing and it started to rain again. We went back to our rooms and played some cards and went to bed.

Now that the trip is half over, I want to take the next few sentences to state some observations I made. Cars move fast and rarely slow down.

Today is September 6th. Today started off slow, because it was still raining. The main plan was to take a tour by boat in Berchtesgaden. However, the weather has not been cooperating. We decided to take the train up and hope the weather clears up. However, when we got there it was still raining. It took us a little longer to find the tour information place, because the signs were not that big and it was a bit of a walk from the train station. We asked the tourist agent if there was anything to do considering the weather. She suggested the Salt mines. We could of walked up along the river for 20 minutes or take a bus up. Since my mom's back hurt after walking a while, we decided to take the bus. It would have been quicker it turned out. The tourist agent told us we could catch the bus back in front of the train station. As we were walking back, I wanted to see if the buses stopped a little further down from the step of the train station. It seems I missed the sign for a bus stop and my parents ducked under the train station's porch roof by the bus sign. I never made it to the building I could not see, because half way there I turned around to locate my parents and they were no longer behind me. I turned around and walked back toward the bus sign and found them waiting there. We were looking for the bus that would take us where we wanted to go, but did not see one for the longest time. We figured out that the bus number we wanted was 40, but was not sure it had come in the last hour or not, because we were focusing on city names and not bus numbers. After a while my dad asked a bus driver, which told him to head down towards the direction I was originally going before. The building was headed for before turned out to be an office for the bus station, where you could by tickets and such. Any way as we passed the building we saw the bus 40. By the time we got to the rear of the bus and could touch it, the bus pulled away. We went back to the bus station and the person there said we could take the bus that was right out front to get to the salt mines, where we wanted to go. After that fun we got to the place and bought our tour tickets, but we had to wait an hour for our group to enter the mine. So we got lunch and ate. It was still raining. We finally enter the mine. They had us put on overalls to protect our clothes. Plus it would make us feel like miners, just like the ones that actually did mine the salt. The tour was interesting. The down side of it was, the tour guide spoke only German. There were a couple signs in English. We even got a small sample of salt to take with us for free. They took pictures of us on a train like vehicle, so I bought the copy of my parents and myself. We could have tried the boat tour still, but with my mom's back starting to hurt and the rain still falling we decided to ditch the boat tour. Plus we were not sure when the last tour was. We might not of been able to made it in time. So we headed back to Freilassing for another night of sleep. But boy sure enough, while we were on the train the rain stopped and even during dinner the sun even poked its head out. We asked if there was a place in town that we could do our laundry. Freilassing is so small that it did not have a laundry mat. But the our of the hotel we stayed at offered to wash our clothes in the washer and drier they use to clean fabrics from the rooms and dining room. So while we ate dinner we got our laundry done, hopefully for the last time during our trip. We played cards the rest of the night and just relaxed. We heard the weather for tomorrow was suppose to be the same as today, rainy and then clearing.
