The following is the text of the handouts which were distributed atthe 'History of A-Phi-O' seminar at Nationals 1988. The pictures (ex: TheCoat of Arms on the cover, etc.) have not been reproduced for obviousreasons. I have endevored to keep my contribution to the number of typingmistakes to a minimal amount, but I have duplicated any which were presentin the original document. Comments and additional facts I remember areenclosed in { and }. _APO_ denotes the Greek letters, _c_ denotes the centssymbol. Answers to the trivia quiz can be found on the last page of thisdocument.

{The cover of the handout depicted the Coat of Arms with oak leaves instead of torches. The four stars over the helmet were described to originally stand for Frank R. Horton, Everett W. Probst, Ellsworth S. Dobson, and (Thane S. Cooley? Sorry, I forgot who was the fourth). This was changed since the Boy Scouts of America would not recognize an organization which had live people symbolized in such a way.

In script at the bottom of the cover page read:

The Honored Crest of
_APO_
to Supreme Grand Master
H. Roe Bartle
by Andrew R. Janson
